WHAT’S HAPPENING

Volunteer Spotlight: Tina Wirth, Vice-President — Governance

Tina Wirth, WGA Vice-President for Governance, loves being an active part of the solution along with other women through the powerful philanthropic impact of collective giving. Her superpowers include her enthusiasm, curiosity, and finding friends willing to help put her impressive wig and costume collection to good use.

How did you get involved with WGA?

I decided to join WGA because I was impressed with the caliber of the women who were members and leaders, and I loved the collective giving model and its philanthropic impact. This is my first year as a vice-president, and my leadership style is collaborative, which aligns so well with the ethos of WGA — women helping women and girls through fellowship, service, and giving. With income inequality growing and women’s health and safety at risk, it is also good for my soul to be an active part of the solution, with other women motivated to do the same.

What do you do outside of WGA?

My work consists of running a hands-on, non-profit management consulting firm. At home, I live with my wife Carrie and our pups, Moxie and Maya, and we love kayaking, camping, travel, and entertaining and hosting.

What inspires you?

If I had to recommend a book for everyone to read, it would be Being Mortal by Atul Gawande. Medicine has advanced so much in recent history, but our sense of mortality about those advances needs to catch up. Reducing suffering is what drives my interest in serving the nonprofit sector, and there is great suffering found in the medical complex’s monetary drive towards longer lifespans but diminishing returns. Being Mortal spoke right to that and has stirred my interest in being a better advocate for those I love.
