What We Do

Education

Education is key to bringing attention to issues and inspiring action.

Throughout the year, WGA develops and hosts a number of programs to expand the knowledge of WGA Members, policy makers, the media and the general public. Education is a fundamental component of our strategic philanthropy.

Educational Events

WGA Educational Events are held throughout Northeast Florida, in locations that vary from museums and television studios to lecture halls and Members’ homes. Some are mid-day, while others are held after work. Some are catered events or optional brown-bag lunches. Some are intimate discussions with only a handful of attendees while others seat a few hundred people.

Our events balance multiple objectives:

  • Education about strategic philanthropy
  • Lectures from experts about our focus area
  • Visits to our grantees’ sites to see the impact of our funding firsthand
  • Background and context for important advocacy issues
  • Education about local issues impacting women in our local neighborhoods, Jacksonville and Northeast Florida

Choose educational events that work best for you, your schedule and your interests.

In Her Own Words

“There are 24 hours in a day so why not fill them with the most important things? Family, career and WGA are always at the top of my list. From committees to social and educational events, WGA gives me the opportunity to connect with strong women and make a difference in the community.”

– Rachael Mueller, JD, WGA Member

“WGA allows me to choose where I want to give my time while creating space to learn about our grantees and our community. It is the best of all worlds!”

– Sabeen Perwaiz, WGA Member

“Through WGA education, I have been moved by the challenges faced by women and girls. It’s also revealed a deeper understanding of my personal values. It has guided me towards becoming a more thoughtful and effective philanthropist. I am grateful for the empowering influence of WGA and feel more impactful in my giving journey.”
