Kirsten Martino, Grants Leadership Team Chair, loves that her involvement with WGA brings her even closer to our grantees and communities they serve. And keep her in mind if you see a gently-rusted vintage truck.
How did you get introduced to WGA, and what made you step up as a leader?
Karen Mayfield introduced me to WGA. I had already known Karen for a few years, and since I respected and thought so highly of her, I joined immediately. WGA fills so many buckets for me. Through TCF’s Weaver Philanthropic Initiative, I learned that underserved women and girls are my philanthropic passion. The added bonus of WGA is that my leadership role has connected me to countless inspiring women in our community. I have gained new enriching friendships and look forward to making more. Plus, the access to our grantees fills my need to be close to the amazing work being done.
Speaking of grants, as Grants Leadership Team Chair, what do you hope to accomplish this year?
Our new focus area has created a lot of excitement for our grants team. We have strategized on our grantmaking process and are confident that all membership is represented in our work. But my main goal is that we continue to learn and lean into this important challenge in our community. The range of applications prove that the need is huge and that our community partners and grantees can teach us a tremendous amount.
What is a fun fact about you that others may not know?
I have been searching for a vintage truck for about five years. My dream truck is a 1972 Ford F-100 with a short bed, in Foxwood green. I don’t want a fancy one either (a little rust would be welcome). This truck may be the most impractical thing that I’ve ever wanted, but I’m not going to stop searching. If anyone has a lead for me, please let me know.
