When Trina Medarev joined WGA in 2020, it sparked a journey of purpose for this dynamic leader, uniting her global perspective with a deep commitment to empowering women and girls in Northeast Florida. Keep reading to learn more about Trina’s leadership mindset and love for all things Miata.
How did you get involved with WGA?
I remain deeply grateful to former Board Chair Ellen Wiss for introducing me to the Women’s Giving Alliance in 2020 and encouraging my continued engagement and support. Her invitation opened the door to an inspiring community of women who care deeply about making a lasting impact across Northeast Florida.
What motivates you as a leader?
“There’s not much you can’t live with, fix, or apologize for. Give it your best, but don’t worry—it all will work out and be really good.” – invaluable advice from Ambassador Marilyn McAfee. I release the fear of failure and embrace new initiatives, taking chances and adjusting along the way. That mindset allows me to build bridges between our community, Florida, and the broader world.
What is your vision for the Membership Committee?
Membership is the lifeblood of WGA. I look forward to sharing the many benefits of joining and creating opportunities for Members to connect, learn, and give together. Harnessing the power of collective philanthropy, we can continue to uplift women and girls, strengthen families, and sustain the vibrant future of Northeast Florida.
What do you enjoy outside of WGA?
I have served for more than 20 years as President & CEO of the World Affairs Council of Jacksonville, helping it grow from a modest speaker program into a dynamic organization reaching thousands through acclaimed speaker series and educational initiatives. I also lead international journeys, most recently to Israel, the Mediterranean, Scandinavia, the Baltic Sea — and this coming spring, Vietnam and Cambodia. Travel is not only discovery but also connection: every trip strengthens relationships among World Affairs Council members nationwide and deepens our shared understanding of the world.
What is a fun fact about you?
My guilty pleasure is owning a delightfully impractical Mazda Miata. I’ve even joined the local Miata Club and love caravan drives—with walkie-talkies in hand—that lead me to fascinating corners of Florida.
