You may not know that Sabeen has lived in four different countries (Pakistan, US, England, and Cambodia) and has traveled to 44 countries in her lifetime, with a goal of reaching 100 countries. Her broad life experience and curiosity about the world should bring a fresh perspective to WGA’s work and mission.
How did you get involved with WGA? What attracted you to WGA?
I was invited to apply for the Delores Barr Weaver fellowship in its inaugural year. I believe everyone can be a philanthropist, and I love that collective giving circles allow us to make a greater impact, together.
What motivates you as a leader?
Motivation, for me, stems from a combination of personal values and a desire to make a meaningful impact. My motivators include purpose, empowerment, impact, connection, and legacy. It is important to me to leave the world better than I found it. Leadership is not about what I want, but it is about what is best for the organization I serve and bringing everyone along with me. I love when individuals can see the impact of their work and are able to see the why. I have always been motivated to serve and to lead honestly and with integrity.
Describe your vision for WGA. What do you hope to accomplish as you lead WGA for the next two years?
Our giving circle has grown tremendously over the last few years and will only continue to grow. Over the next two years, I will be working to ensure that our infrastructure can sustainably maintain this growth and more. This includes looking at our members’ experience, our finances, and of course our grantmaking. We will be working on championing our new focus area. This will include empowering all of us, and our community, to become advocates for the safety of women and girls. I am so excited for the work that lies ahead as we all help lead WGA to new heights.
What do you do/enjoy outside of WGA?
I am a mom of two little ones and a wife. My family is my first priority, and I love creating memories with them. I also love to travel and explore new places. I have visited 44 countries and hope to visit 100 in my lifetime. For my day job, I serve as the President & CEO of Florida Nonprofit Alliance. Florida Nonprofit Alliance strengthens Florida’s nonprofit sector by serving as a collective voice, advocate, connector, and resource hub, promoting collaboration, policy advocacy, and access to critical sector data.
Tell us a “fun fact” about you that many do not know.
I do not eat any fruits. I haven’t since I was a baby.
